I’m running Vista Business on my dual core, 3 Gb laptop and it’s performing like a dog.  I’ve just downloaded Vista SP1 (554Mb) and I’m about to install it.

There are no end of warnings about closing all programs, backing up your drives etc. etc. (some of which I’ve done) and it’s now telling me to prepare for an installation time of up to an hour with multiple reboot (for a service pack????), anyway, let’s see how it goes.  If I have not added to this blog within 24 hours of this posting, please alert Microsoft and ask them to call round to my house to sort out my laptop…….

I wanted to add the embedded MSN Messenger control onto my space so I went and got the relevant html/javascript from the MSN site and pasted it into a custome HTML module – no emedded control.  I’ve added it to an existing Cutom HTML control and still no embedded control – I guess MS don’t trust their own scripts.

Weekly weigh in – 185.5 – 2.5 pounds off.  I’m not convinced though and suspect the scales myabe a little dodgy.  As "Father of the Groom", I’ve been measured for my suit today and was horrified to learn that my waist is now in the 35/36 inch category after years with a 33 inch waist.  Motivation, motivation.

Exercise – about 5 miles in 40 minutes .  My legs feel wiped out now though which is depressing.  If I’m going to run the London Marathon again, I need 5 times the distance and as Bunder likes to remind me, there’s only 52 weeks to go!  My battered knees are still a bit dodgy with the right one absolutely whining when I put too much effort in.  I need to drop at least a stone before attempting the marathon and my knees would be even happier if I could manage 1.5 stones but we’ll see how I get on.

Here’s one of the stotties I bought in Sunderland over the weekend.

It goes really well with ham and pease pudding.

For those not versed in North Eastern English culture , the Wikipedia entry on stotties is here whilst pease pudding is described here.

I cracked on Friday and got a couple of sausage sarneis down my neck for my LOTR style second breakfast.  No time for exercise today as I had to drive back from Edinburgh to Sunderland (flashed by a speed camera on the way ).  I then nipped out with an old friend of mine (Paul) to celebrate the recent arrival a son to him and Tracy.  23:30 found us trying to find an Indian restaurant just out of Sunderland town centre that Paul knew – we found it but it was closing so back into town for a couple of Old Speckeled Hens before a wind swept walk home over Sunderland Town bridge.

Decided to run up to the top of Arthurs Seat but my dodgy knee made this more of a stagger.  It turns out that Arthurs Seat is 250.5 metres high and when I got to the top it was blowing  a wild wind and it was freezin

Part of the route I took

At the top – 250.5 metres high

I called WP while I was at the top to let her listen to the noise of the wind (it was engaged of course) so I recorded it instead.  If I figure out how to upload it to this site I will.

Whilst I’m up here working in Edinburgh I’m staying in an apartment in the Newington area supplied by Destination Edinburgh Apartments.  It’s a newly refurbished, modern apartment that is about 15/20 minutes walk from Princes Street and about 8 minutes run to Arthurs Seat (see Wors Workout for images of Arthurs Seat).  The apartment is serviced by a good WiFi network and a fast internet connection – the SQL 2005 Reporting Services hotfix which is a 100Mb (see http://worsworld.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!400938DCD454D501!456.entry for why I need it) came down at a great rate.

All in all it’s a great place and I’m enjoying my stay here.  The only downside for me is that it’s surrounded by pubs, restaurants and take away shops – downside because I’m trying to get fit and down to my running weight.  The delicious aromas from these places are a bit much when I’m returning to my apartment for pasta and tomato sauce or beans on toast
